First Missive: Man of Tanith
[Corbec sat crouched near the edge of the forest, looking in at the village and frowning. He twirled the wooden aquila he had made in his fingers, thinking to himself. He'd found the village a few days ago, and what he saw of it at first seemed quite out of the ordinary. There were a handful things wandering around the village that clearly weren't human, or natural, but things seemed peaceful. He had decided he would watch from afar for a few days to get a better picture of what was going on here, and so far what he'd seen seemed like life in any peaceful village. The building he was currently looking at had people coming and going from it at regular intervals, and from what he could tell it was a bar of some sort. Again, it seemed like a relatively peaceful place. He looked at the aquila in his hand and pocketed it, standing up. Things here didn't seem harmful, and it was time for a closer look. Quietly, he made his way towards the bar. As he got closer, he managed to get a better look at the sign. The Good Spirits Bar, it read. So it was as he suspected. His guess confirmed, he now only knew one thing. And that was that he could use a drink. He took hold of the handle of the door, and entered, hoping he wasn't making a fool decision.]
Corbec will be in the bar for most of the evening. Do feel free to stop him before he enters if you wish, however.

[ later in the evening, the petite barmaid approached with a half-empty bottle in hand. she'd watched him from a distance, remarking on his unfamiliar face. new to town, she wondered...? or just the bar?
buffy lifts the bottle in an additional silent offer. ]

Aye, I'll take a drink. Thank you kindly, miss. Or is it missus?

[ and with such a warm (hah) welcome, she leans in to pour the man a generous, fresh glass. ]

Good to meet you, Buffy. I'm Colm Corbec. ...I only just arrived, so I'm not entirely sure what I should use for payment. I do have this?
[Corbec reaches into his pocket and pulls out a few silvery coins with a two headed eagle emblazoned on both sides]
Not sure if that's worth anything to you.

[ buffy taps her nose. secret-like. ]
no subject
Ah, thank you Buffy. ...you're giving me a good first impression of the place.

the bar isn't too busy. she can spare a moment or two to give the man a proper introduction. she hopes. ] May I grab a seat? If you don't mind the intrusion. Only...only I remember what it was like to be new, oodles of time ago.
[ and it helps to have someone to just chat with. ]

How did it become his favorite? It's like the worst stuff ever.
He glances over at a man who is obviously a newcomer.]
You ever burn your tonsils out with liquor, mate?
no subject
Well, you're certainly a good guesser. I have once or twice, honestly. Are you speaking from experience, by any chance?
[Corbec smiled and offered a hand.]
My name is Colm Corbec. What would yours be?
no subject
[There's a firm but very brief handshake. Jack turns back to his rum. Colm might notice that his left arm is in a sling.]
And you'd have to ask my tonsils that question, really -- though they're notoriously mum, by all accounts. New here?
no subject
Aye, I've been here a few days. Well...in the woods. I only just came into the village. I've been watching it from afar for a bit...it seems peaceful enough though. Some of the people here look like the types that would be trying to tear my face off under normal circumstances...
no subject
Here.
[Wow. That was surprisingly difficult to admit to.]
no subject
In the bar? You wouldn't be the first man I've known to live in one. The forest here is nice, though...even if the talking animals did worry me for a bit there. Not so much as the fething wings though...well, I learned the hard way what pulling a few out feels like.
[Corbec's mouth twists in an small, odd frown.]
no subject
My advice? Avoid the squirrels.
And the ducks.
[He's had a tough time with both species.]
And the feathers, aye; you don't want to lose 'em, that's for certain. Keep your wings on, and your head, and you'll survive.
no subject
So you die if you lose the wings? ...I suppose I should have guessed that. But what's a duck? Or a squirrel? Both dangerous I'm assuming.

He did, however, look like he'd avoided the village for a while at first. Kinda smelled like it, too. Ah, well. Paranoia, I'm not the one to fault him for that. I nodded to him in greeting.
"Hey. New to town, I take it?"
Re: [Action]
Aye, you're the third person to guess that correctly. I just came to the village today. I've been in the woods for a few days prior though.

"Well, in that case, welcome to Luceti. It's not a bad place, if you don't mind the evil overlord scientists."
Re: [Action]
Well, thanks for the welcome. ...I'm a bit more worried about how I got here and the wings, but earlier I was told that's perfectly normal.
[Action]
I offered him a handshake.
"Harry. Dresden."

Colm Corbec.

Re: [Action]
Where I'm from people usually refer to eachother by their last names. 'course from what I've seen that's one of the many differences here.
